Preemie Hat
Materials
1 skein Baby or
Sport Weight Yarn
Crochet Hook
Size F (adjust size as needed to meet measurements)
Skill Level: Easy
Finished Hat
Measurements: Approx 3"
tall x 7" circumference (or 3.5" wide when laid flat)
Note: Work hat in vertical rows as a straight piece, and sew seams together with a blunt needle. ** This allows the hat to be flexible and not bulky for teeny tiny baby heads **
Stitch Explanation: Sc2tog (insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 3 loops on hook).

Row
1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, and in each ch across to end
(24 sc).
Row
2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each sc across (in back loops only). Piece
should be approx 3.5"
wide.
Row
3-45: Repeat row 2 until piece measures approx 7".
Finish
off, leaving long tail and sew seam together.
Finishing
Top:
With right side facing, join yarn with sc at top of hat.
Rnd
1: Sc around, spacing evenly, slip to 1st sc.
Rnd
2: Ch 1, Sc2tog around, slip to join.
Finish
off, leaving long tail. Using needle, weave tail through stitches
and pull tight to close.
Bottom:
With wrong side facing, join yarn with sc at bottom of hat. (When
edge is rolled up, these rounds will be showing on right side).
Rnd
1: Sc in next 4 stitches, (Sc2tog, sc in next 5 stitches) repeat
around spacing evenly. Slip to 1st sc.
Rnd
2: Ch 1, Sc in each sc around, slip to join.
Finish
off. Weave in ends.
